My roomates are nuts..
Oct. 21st, 2004 10:10 pm.. but, then again, that's not news. ;)
So, yes. Update. I have officially entered the 'Gauntlet'.
General GREs: Took them Wednesday, and didn't do too poorly. 610 verbal, 580 math, which was better than I'd been doing on previous diagnostics. I'm really disappointed in the verbal-- I'm sure I can do better. So, I've scheduled another set for the day before Thanksgiving.
5th Floor Presentation: So, in order to get some experience presenting a talk in front of a crowd, Blaire decided it was a good idea for me to present at this quarter's 5th floor meeting. Essentially, all the labs of the 5th floor are invited to attend, and watch me go nuclear. Well, that was tonight-- it didn't go too poorly. I know I was bright red before I even got to the front, and my face literally ached afterwards. But, I think I didn't do too poorly. I know which spots I need to tighten up in, and I have an idea of some general questions to expect. Blaire was nice enough to give me some hints and suggestions afterwards, and everyone was really kind. There are some awesome people on that floor.
Animal Ecological Physiology Midterm: The name alone is intimidating. Luckily, the class appears to be nothing but an unholy hybrid between biochem and 110. I'm trying not to take it too lightly, but at the same time, I feel pretty good about it. We'll see what I say Monday afternoon.
Physics Midterm: This one, I fear. I suxxors at physics. Well, correction-- I really like physics, and I find it absolutely fascinating. However, I have issues doing problems until I'm shown the general idea. Or, at least, given a hint. It's just really hard for me to think in math-terms. ;p This professor is the one I had for 6a, and she made her reviews almost exactly like the midterm-- but I don't want to rely on that. I'll probably spend a good deal of this weekend studying for that.
Animal Eco. Phys written report: Gotta get this done and handed in by Nov. 2nd... Hopefully it won't be too in-depth, and it seems like all my group-mates are pretty science-oriented.
SVP: Alrighty.. I fly out the evening of November 2, get in at, like, 11:30 at night... To the airport, mind you, not checked into the hotel or anything. Then I get to wake up bright and early Wednesday morning to register for the conference and attend the first few talks at 8 am. Rinse and repeat for the next three days. Saturday morning, at 9:15 am, I'll give the talk that I gave tonight. Aiyah. And, to make things even more interesting, the guy who's lifelong work our study refutes will be attending. =___= But, on the extreme upside, I'll get to meet at least two, possibly three potential advisors there. But I expect to be incredibly sleep-deprived.
Bio GREs: Aka, the subject test of doooooooooooom. Thankfully, it's a full week after I get back from SVP. Unthankfully, it's also the weekend before my second set of midterms. Ah, well. I'm sure things'll work out fine. I'm just a bit nervous, because this is my only chance to take them before applications are due.
Um.. I think that's about as much as I want to put down for now. Some more scattered midterms and lab reports in there... A visit to Rhode Island (Brown University) scheduled for the week after Thanksgiving, and a trip to Ohio (Athens, Ohio University) for the 19-21 of December. So far so good.
