A new year for new things...
My adventures in
nalroth land continue!
So, I spent most of Tuesday writing up the huge update-of-doom (given how long it is and how long it took for me to remember what we did on each day, I think I'm justified). That night there were tentative plans for
nalroth and I to catch King Kong or The Chronicles of Narnia after I made dinner. Unfortunately, with Patrick at work 'till late, and me without the ingredients I needed to cook (yay tacos and spicy rice!), this would have been completely impossible-- had it not been for Super
safetypup to the rescue! He was nice enough to set aside his CoV game to drive my bum to the store, help me find my ingredients in a short amount of time, and show me how to do the self-checkout thingee. Which was evil-- they train people to be cashiers for a reason!
In any case I managed to start prepping foods and start cooking by the time
nalroth got back home, and he was kind enough to help me with some of the steps (like dicing jalapenos... evil!) and we were doin' pretty good-- until I put the rice in the oven to cook. It's a really neat recipe that calls for sour cream, jack cheese, spicy things, and a little bit of butter, and it's only supposed to cook for half an hour... Well, a half-hour comes and goes and it's still not browning nicely. Drat! So I stick it in there for a little longer and focus on frying the taco shells-- which is so much harder than my Mom makes it look. I got flustered when they started exploding, and finally
nalroth came over and tried his hand at it. We both kind of decided that soft tacos were fine, and there was no way we were going to make the movie, so we sat down for a quiet dinner and a game or two of chess. The rice came out, still not brown and crispy but warm and with a fairly 'normal' flavor-- but for some reason the taco meat had gotten super salty! Aiyah! Needless to say I was mortified-- the one time I cook, and I couldn't even get it right! But
nalroth went above and beyond the call of duty-- not only did he eat the stuff, he liked it. <3 He's such an amazing boyfriend-- so loving, so caring, always ready to reassure and encourage... and incredibly handsome to boot! I'm so lucky. (Okay, you guys can all stop gagging and choking now. ;D ).
So, after dinner we played chess, cuddled, played a little more chess, and then wandered downstairs to where
safetypup and Mark were watching Hellboy. We were all zonked and ended up going to our respective beds far before the movie ended-- which is a pity, because I really want to finish it now. Anyway,
nalroth and I started to sleep... but he was so close to the end of A Game of Thrones that he stayed up (probably 'till close to 2) finishing it. It makes me smile just thinking about it-- I love my
nalroth. He tickles me so. n__n
Big day! That night we went to go have dinner with
nalroth's parents at the Mongolian BBQ place in downtown DC... because dinner was at 6:30 and Patrick was going to work 'till 5, I had to drive to his work and pick him up (because there woudln't be enough time for him to drive home, pick me up, and drive all the way back). I was rather nervous-- I've driven very few cars other than Delilah, and the road systems out here are just strange enough to cause some confusion... but
nalroth supplied me with excellent instructions back home (I made it, safe 'n sound!), and I have an excellent memory for landmarks so getting back to his office was easy. Go me! Of course, as soon as I got over my fear of driving that left me with nothing to distract me from my nervousness at meeting his parents. Meep! Parents! Two of them! At the same time! Uwaaaaaaaah!
So, yes... as fun as it was to ride the metro with
nalroth, I got more and more nervous... not because I was afraid of his parents, or thought they'd be evil trolls or something, but because I was afraid I'd do something to make a fool of myself. I wanted so badly to make a good impression-- though everyone I mentioned it to reassured me that all I had to be was myself. Which is a good thing, 'cause I don't know how to be anyone else. ;) We got there and his Dad had beat us (though we were still ~10 minutes early)-- the first thing I noticed was his kind smile. That, and the hand-shake/hug put me a little more to ease. The resemblance between
nalroth and him is obvious, and not just in physical aspects. We sat and made small talk for a while until his Mom came-- another shy/nervous smile and handshake on my part, and then off to the food! His Dad said a quick prayer when we settled back with our bowls, which caught me somewhat off guard, though definitely not unpleasantly so--
nalroth said I looked a little puzzled. Conversation followed pleasantly, with plenty of banter and stories and general pleasant chatter. We finished up with dinner and shared our fortune-cookie fortunes (with the added 'in bed', which made us all laugh). The ride back somewhat less pleasant, since both
nalroth and I were hurting.. which probably explains why when we got back we both collapsed into bed and slept. We woke up well rested the next morning, though!
Ah-hah! Thursday was a day I'd been looking forward to-- Alchemy at Nation! I've always been curious, since I've never been clubbing before and
nalroth and just about everyone else out here goes almost every week. Now that I actually know (and like!!) everyone else, it was an opportunity to be social I really didn't want to pass (even though I can't dance to save my life, I had no appropriate clothing, and I'm not much of a drinker). I drove
nalroth to work again, and this time came back so we could have lunch. We swung by his Mom's office to pick up a few things and chat, which was terribly fun. A quick lunch at the local Pizza Hut, then I dropped him back off at work and I circled back and just hung out in the parking lot of a nearby shopping center. There was a Petco, so I wandered in there hoping to catch a glance of some gerbils and ferrets. It was a pretty shoddy pet store-- most of the bettas were half-dead or incredibly listless, with really ratty tails (though they'd been switched out of the blue water). They had one gerbil, who was hiding, and a tank of ferrets who were enjoying their afternoon siesta-- they looked like a bunch of black'n'white socks strewn around. So cute! I wandered back out, sat in the car reading a bit, then wandered into the Panera to grab a chai to keep me warm, and finished up reading. By the time I finished A Clash of Kings it was near time to pick up
nalroth so I just drove over, parked in the parking lot, and chatted with Mom on the phone for a bit. They're driving up to AG later today, as is the rest of my family-- they're placing Grandma's ashes next to Grandpa this weekend.
After a little bit
nalroth popped out, he pointed out his office window to me (so now I know where to throw rocks ;D), and we hopped in the car to race home and change and meet everyone at the Indian place (Supper Club?) for dinner. Mmm... Gosht badami = <3. It was a little sweeter this time around, which I didn't much care for, but it was still really good. I also was a bit quieter at this dinner-- most of the topics of conversation were ones I either couldn't (or didn't wish to) join. It was still incredibly fun-- I met
ammitnox and
disoculated, who are incredibly nifty people. Dinner was pretty quick, and everyone scampered off to their respective vehicles to head downtown.
My eyes were huge when we got off the freeway-- Nation is in a very unsavory part of town, and being in such places definitely was not part of my sheltered childhood.. It tends to make me incredibly nervous. Between the lap through scary neighborhoods, the cold air, and my general nervousness (I was very intimidated by the look of the general patrons [again, sheltered life]) I was fairly trembling by the time we joined up with the group.
224215152 had already gotten her drink (vodka and cranberry juice), and let me have a sip... The vodka flavor was incredibly strong to me, but it left a nice aftertaste. Then
ammitnox let me have a sip of her apple-tini, which I liked about the same except it had a worse aftertaste.
wbenetti got jacked, because
nalroth got his drink (Red Bull 'n vodka) first, even though he had been waiting a shorter amount of time. We eventually mosied over to the 'quiet' side, where we sat and drank and chatted.
syntart and
224215152 were the first on the dance floor from our group-- I was content to steal sips from
nalroth's drink and chat with
ammitnox. It took me sipping off three of
nalroth's Red Bull 'n vodka's (and a quick disappearance of
nalroth) before I had the courage to hit the dance floor.. Though I blame that on a surprising dearth of good music.
syntart grabbed
224215152, who then offered her hand to me, and we all managed to lure
ammitnox out with us. I'm not half as graceful as any of those lovely ladies, but I still managed to have fun-- especially when
nalroth stole up behind me, wrapped an arm around my waist, and danced with me. <3
We could only take two songs, though, and after that I started to get dizzy and feel Odd.
nalroth was starting to get sick from the smoke, and everyone kind of decided to leave at the same time. We had all parked in the same lot, so we all strolled out together-- I was still feeling Odd, but
safetypup was gracious enough to unwittingly distract me by starting a conversation about things that make me blush. We said our goodbyes, jumped in the car, got lost for a bit, and then hit the freeway. Lying still in the car made me more aware of the Oddness-- my limbs and head suddenly felt as if there were weights attached, and the inside of my head felt... fuzzy.
nalroth was concerned because I was lying so still and quiet, and when I told him how I felt he smiled softly and informed me I was drunk. Ohnoes!! I'm no longer an alcohol-virgin. ;) As for the age-old question of what kind of drunk I am... I was too worried and nervous about being drunk to relax, so we don't really know yet. I'll have to get drunk again.
We made it home safe and sound, and I made it out of the car, up the stairs, and onto the bed all by myself.
safetypup had just gotten home, so he and
nalroth chatted a bit. Then the both came upstairs to check on me, and found me flopped face-down on the bed.
safetypup asked me how tipsy I was, to which I shrugged-- I had no rubric with which to measure! I got all shy and giggly then, and buried myself under a pillow after
nalroth stripped me of my shoes (which I was perfectly capable of doing myself, thank you!).
safetypup left
nalroth and I sipping water and getting ready for bed, and then off to sleep it was.
Overall, such wonderful experiences! Everyone I've met here is so friendly, so awesome... I'm really loathe to leave and miss out on more fun and shennanigans, but I should be back somewhat frequently, and I'll be out here all summer if all goes well.
And now it's time for me to fetch the clothes from the dryer, freshen up, and save
nalroth from the evil cluthes of work! I'm coming, my darling! ;D

I'm sorry we didn't get a chance to chat with you more during your visit. If you do come out for Katsu-con, and I am able to convince Leesa to come out in spite of it being anime, we'd certainly enjoy seeing you. Maybe we can make that visit to Brickskeller.
