Breaking news from the UC Davis Geology Department...

Huzzah! My labmate, Lars, passed his orals! :D He's the first one of Motani-san's students to test (and also the first to pass, though that sounds funny). There was much anxious soccer mom-ing outside the room he was defending in, and many partook of the champagne, cookies, and cake. Sanja's defense is next Thursday, so chances are we'll have a repeat of events next week. Only without the champagne-- I only took four or five sips of mine, and had to give the rest to Amanda. It affected me pretty strongly and pretty quickly, even though I had a sizeable sandwhich just beforehand. That, and I ended up with a surprisingly powerful headache, and a general feeling of 'ick'. nalroth and zhai both suspect I may be allergic, which means I might have to avoid fermented grape products and stick to the 'pure' alcohol like vodka and rum.

Anywho... after all the celebrating I'm finding it hard to get back to work. Since I now have keys to all the rooms in the building I need access to (and since nalroth is off partying in Connecticut) I may just come in tomorrow and work from my office.
